East Domain (78758) in north central Austin is large neighborhood - diverse and changing. With a family feel that includes plenty of singles and couples, a big park and entertainment of all kinds this is a fantastic, affordable choice for so many. East Domain is a real mash up of old and new. Small neighborhood, family taco places and barber shops combine with high end shopping at The Domain. The 2016 addition of Rock Rose Avenue makes me think of Disneyland for the happy hour, sports bar lovers - park your car once and wonder in and out of little eateries and all kinds of bars! And many of these are Austin local places! 78758 has also become a craft beer hotspot. 4th Tap Brewing Co-op, Celis, Circle Brewing, Adelbert's Brewing, ... you get the idea. By far most homes are single family but there are many other home choices as well. There are duplex streets for those wanting to improve their investment portfolios or pursue this great economic strategy for home ownership. Apartment buildings and condos are dotted here and there through out the zip code. The Domain also has apartments and condos within the shopping center. They are generally higher priced and return the fun of no-car errands, shopping and entertainment. History 78758 is a large zip code neighborhood in north central Austin. For years a diverse area of working class and immigrant families. The neighborhood started changing significantly with two events. In 2007, The Domain outdoor shopping mall opened on the west edge of 78758. At the time, it was a bold project with upscale stores uncommon in Austin - Barneys New York, Tiffany & Co, Neiman Marcus. Two more major phases followed with a huge variety of additional retail stores, restaurants, bars and hotels. All sections have nice places walk and gather with friends. Over the years The Domain has also added thousands of apartment and condominium units. In 2012, Austin started to roar back from the great recession. The Austin Metro never had a huge drop in real estate value, as so many other areas did, but with an impressive job market and flat appreciation for 5 years the comeback was strong. As Austin housing values appreciated buyers looked for affordable areas with great locations. 78758 fits that to a tee. |
